Why do home workouts?

Ok, so I could give you the simple answer and just say because they are amazing, and it is super convenient but if it was that simple and straight forward then I guess we would all be doing it. So instead of that I’ll tell you why I love to work out at home and then you can decide for yourself if it is something that could fit your lifestyle.

Way back in 2014/2015 I tried working out at home with the intention of getting rid of any lingering baby weight and just generally getting back into shape. I already had loads of fitness DVD’s that I had steadily collected over a number of years, but which had mainly been gathering dust since being purchased. In my wisdom I decided that none of those were good enough and I went on the hunt for something new.

I turned at that point to the various online shops and started looking around at second hand DVD’s to keep the cost down. What I came across was a program call T25. It looked really hard and had been created by Shaun T – a guy I had already heard of due to the numerous ads I’d seen for his earlier program call Insanity. I knew that Insanity was way beyond me, but I felt I could give T25 a good go. Boy was I wrong, those workouts were tough! I soon found excuses for why I couldn’t do them and eventually I stopped trying altogether.

So, my first real attempt at working out at home had failed and it was another set of DVDs’ tucked away on a shelf gathering dust.

But in the summer of 2017I decided that something had to change, and I didn’t want to be tied to someone else’s time table or opening hours. Besides which going to the gym now felt like a major hassle with everything else going on in life. Doing a 1hr class at the gym didn’t just take 1hr it was also the time to get to and from the gym, it was remembering to book on in advance so you could get a spot but not booking too many classes in case something happened and you couldn’t make it and got fined…so the gym was a no.

Right about then I had someone reach out to me on Facebook and ask me if I would like to take part in a free week-long fitness challenge – she would provide all the info and support and I would work out at home at a time that suited me. I was hooked!! I did that first week and then another and another until I signed up for the whole package. I got access to over 700 different workouts that I could do from home any time that I wanted to, for a whole 12 months and it cost me about the same as 2 months at the gym would.

I have no child care issues, there is no cost of fuel, no extra time spent travelling to and from a gym, I don’t have to remember to book in a week in advance, there is no risk of a fine for failing to cancel, I have loads of variety, I can do Pilates one day, a dance routine the next and a weights workout the day after if I want to, I have a support group cheering me on and helping me to stay on track with my workouts and goals, and because I’m at home working out Callie can see me doing it and she can join in if she wants to.

Home workouts coupled with the right support can be a super flexible way for you to smash your fitness goals.
